Tokyo Police Club & Cold War Kids
LIVE at Sala Rosa April 2nd
Double bill not to be missed. Both bands play eccentric mixes of indie rock guitar riffs and synth pop melodies varying from ballads to power rock anthems all the while sounding fresh and original. Tickets are only 15$ and since both bands are still only popular in underground indie rock circles, the show shouldn't be shoulder to shoulder.

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
Back to Black is a deep breath of fresh air from the current drowning of repetitive hip hop and R&B albums. The mo-town feel of jazzy pianos, saxophones and hy-hats mix seamlessly with her deep brassy voice. Amy's singing is reminiscent of fifties jazz bar singers if their lyrical content were contemporary issues like alcoholism, drug abuse and adultery. The song "You know I'm no good" is what melting chocolate would sound like; smooth and thick.

Feist - Let it Die
Let it Die is a mix of smoke-filled coffeehouse jazz and romantic synth-pop keyboards brought together by the ever so soft and seductive voice of Canadian-born Leslie Feist. Songs like "Inside and Out" are a precisely measured blend of different genres mixed into a delectable recipe by her eccentric singing talents. Her whimsical voice invites you on romantic adventures with gentle melodies in songs like "Mushaboom", where you're overcome with a breezy summer feeling that sinks you deep into your seat.
Fiest recently pre-released one of the songs from her much anticipated album The Reminder, in stores April 23rd. The song is called "My Man, My Moon" and it is a testament to her amazing talents as a singer-songwriter. The rhythm of its drums is enticing while it's lyrics leave behind pools of sex appeal with lines like "take it slow/ take it easy on me".

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
In the last hour I've read a lot of reviews of this album saying that Modest Mouse has become "too palatable", their music "too accessible" and their sound "too generic". I couldn't help but feel the writers were fixed on the songs of earlier albums; hoping to hear more of the same and unwilling to follow the evolution of the band. In truth, this album holds as much creativity and lasting quality as any other and its separation from earlier work is a clear statement of the bands growth. Don't believe the "anti-hype", We Were Dead is another amazing album, the fact that more people like it shouldn't make it bad.

Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone
Explosions in the Sky are an instrumental band from Texas. Their music is reminiscent of songs on movie soundtracks that slowly build up to a long anticipated event. Their album only has six tracks, two of which are 12 minutes long. Many portions of the songs have nothing more then a guitar and bass. They play slow moving washes of melody, bit by bit moving away from quiet and gentle until BANG! The drums hurry the pace and the guitars flare up as hy-hatts explode like dynamite. It's great music to listen to while doing other things like reading or making out.

Hot Chip - The Warning
Hot Chip make brilliant electronic pop music from heavy synths and distorted guitars, played over an overworked drum machine. Their track Over and Over is full of screeching solos heald up by nervous keyboard rythms and a longing chorus asking its listeners to "lay back".

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is an American indie rock group based in Brooklyn, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania whose members include Alec Ounsworth, Lee Sargent, Robbie Guertin, Tyler Sargent, and Sean Greenhalgh. Their debut album, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, was self-released in 2005.
The band, whose members met at Connecticut College, started out by playing weekly shows at Pianos in Manhattan. They are notable for achieving their initial fame and commercial success via the Internet rather than through a record label. Shortly after the release of their first album, they received attention from numerous MP3 blogs and a favorable review from Pitchfork Media, who gave the band a "Best New Music" commendation. The ensuing demand for the album was so great that the band was forced to repress the CD, as the initial production run was too small.

Ol' Dirty Bastard - Nigga Please
Nigga Please is far and beyond my favourite album by Dirty Dirt. A lot of people liked the single because of its catchy chorus but never bothered to give the entire album a listen. Songs like "You Don't Want To Fuck With Me" and "Nigga Please" are a lot better then the release but their lyrical content made it impossible for them to become main stream singles. Anyone who liked Ol' Dirty Bastard should have this one in their collection.

What are Torrents?
What is BitTorrent?
BitTorrent is a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the whole of the corresponding costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. Instead of the distributor alone servicing each recipient, under BitTorrent the recipients each also supply data to newer recipients, thus significantly reducing the cost and burden on any given individual source as well as providing redundancy against system problems, and reducing dependence upon the original distributor.
What do I need to download torrents?
You'll need a BitTorrent client. There are many different BitTorrent clients each with their own pros and cons. For its user friendliness and ability to run without slowing down your Internet connection, I recommend "Azureus".
To download and install Azureus go to http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
I have a client. Now what do I do?
Now that you have a client, you can start downloading torrents. Follow the links for the album torrents to Mininova.org and click on "Download this Torrent!". This will prompt you to open or save the file; open it. Upon opening it, you will receive a prompt from azureus asking if you want to begin the torrent; click "ok".
Voila! You are now downloading a torrent. For a whole bunch more movie and tv show Torrents, go back to Mininova.org and browse around. It is by far the best torrent site and will likely be the only source of torrents you'll ever need.
